Reviewing and auditing

Rainbow menu

With the issue-flagging and collaborative messaging features introduced in Rainbow Pro 9.2, systematic Excel spreadsheet audit and review can now be as easy as 1-2-3, using the first 3 functions on the Rainbow tab (shown above):

Step 1Run the Summary Report function to get a high-level overview of the spreadsheet. Decide what action is required to address any problems highlighted on the report, particularly any red highlights.

Step 2Run the Formula Scan function, with formula checking and issue flagging turned on. Visually inspect the resulting colour map of formula groups, and investigate any obvious inconsistencies or isolated formulas.

Step 3Use the Issue Tracker (F10) to work systematically through issues that Rainbow has identified and flagged, and record the results. And use the Cell Inspector (ALT+F10) to check the logic of any suspicious formulas.

There is much more that could be said about all these functions, as well as about other functions such as the Risk Map or the Logic Analysis function which you can see on the menu above. You can find more information on our Overview and Why Rainbow pages, and in the Version 11 User Guide. But the best way is really to try it out for yourself; just click the button below to install a 30-day free trial:

Download Rainbow Analyst Professional 11

(Note: If Windows SmartScreen reports the download file as an “unrecognised application”, just click “More info” in the SmartScreen message, then click the “Run anyway” button.)

And if you think that you don’t need a tool like Rainbow Analyst because you can find the errors in your spreadsheets by manual inspection, then please try the “Rainbow test” on our Why Rainbow page!
